Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not.

Cyber
Friends - An Essay
I was responding to a question posed on a forum about whether
it was a good idea to meet people we meet in 'cyber space'
My response was initially shaped by my own actions but as
I wrote and thought more I realised I was influenced by
my 'perception' of what had happened to both myself and
others in the past, which in turn could influence the future.
This is a topic I will cover more than once as my thoughts
and opinions will change in time and I think it will be
interesting to review them over various stages in my life.
Mind you, it is also a great way of emptying my head for
a while, it's hard trying to remember everything that's
going on!

Desert
Love
After a long period of not writing, this is a 'first draft'
of something. I tend to write in spurts, everything gets
put down in one sitting then I'll tinker with things slowly.

For
no one
This again is a first draft. No real disguising what its
about, it's a bit raw and emotional but I think with a few
tweaks it may come out as something.

People
This was written circa 1984, during a politics lesson.
I often get advised to expand it but I'm afraid that if
I try amending it I'll lose what it is I like about it.
Short but sweet!

If Only
I recall I wrote this around 1991. I was smitten by a girl
and always seemed tongue tied, even though we were friends.
In the end she thought I was too cynical, I passed her in
the street about 10 years later and she still made my stomach
somersault!

Mysterious
Lady
This was written in 1998, the year I returned from Australia
from where I had spent a year living in Sydney. It was then
I discovered chat rooms and how easy it was to have that
'perfect' conversation with someone you felt you could spend
time with but in reality you knew you would never meet.

Intoxicating
Actually, I've forgotten the name of this style of poem..
I wrote it around 2000/1 as an entry to a competition; needless
to say I didn't win!

The Girl
in Bed
All that ever got typed of a short story I was working
on, this was done around 1999/2000 while I worked evenings
selling phones. I won't tell you how I planned the ending
as I may still finish it, suffice to say, the closing paragraph
finds Richard alone. The girl has just left and he has put
on a CD, as he sits down Peter Tosh's voice fills the room
leaving Richard to ponder the lyrics of 'Till your well
runs dry' (Legalize It, Peter Tosh, ©Virgin
1976)
